Archerfield

Situated close to the eastern border of Australia, Archerfield is an industrial and residential suburb in the state of Queensland. The suburb, which was named after the Archerfield Pastoral Station, is located some 12 kilometres south of Brisbane, the state capital. With an estimated population of 582 people, it is one of the more sparsely populated areas in Queensland.

Part of the City of Brisbane Local Government Area, Archerfield is within the State District of Sunnybank (in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland) and the Federal Division of Moreton (an Australian Electoral Division). Its surrounding suburbs are Acacia Ridge, Coopers Plains, Oxley, Rocklea, and Salisbury.

The vast majority of Archerfield's land area is occupied by the Archerfield Airport, which was once the primary airport of Brisbane. While the airport in 1948 gave way to Eagle Farm as Brisbane's main airport, it did play an important role for the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II when it served as a base for military flying operations in the Pacific. Today, the Archerfield Airport remains a key element in Queensland's aviation industry.
